When I was a kid, July 4th and the few days around the 4th were always very special. As I grew older, I learned that July 4th was more than just fireworks and hot dogs, however, that conversation can be for another time.

The bull market that began in March of 2020 came dangerously close to an end. From March 23, 2020 through January 3, 2022, the S&P 500 Index gained 114% (excluding dividends). From that January 3 closing high through the recent low on May 19, the S&P 500 fell nearly 19%, narrowly avoiding the level at which bull markets end and bear markets begin.

Our granddaughter Taylin is at our home two afternoons a week after preschool.

Stocks have gotten off to a very rocky start in 2022, with the potential for Federal Reserve rate hikes coming and the geopolitical worries over Russia and Ukraine only adding to the uncertainty. We don’t want to minimize the impact of that major geopolitical event, but there is some positive news out there, even though it might not feel like it.

It’s been two years since Halloween was last celebrated in a normal fashion. Some say Halloween is for the kids but it’s also for the adults who enjoy chatting with the costumed visitors.

Happy July 4^th! This is such a special day and time of the year. Kids are out of school for the summer and the weather for “July 4^th week” has always been sunny, hot and very summer-like…at least that is the way I always remember it as a kid.

It’s now been over a year since COVID-19 first hit American shores. While the pandemic has affected everyone to varying degrees, we can all agree that everyone’s life is different today than it was a year ago. It’s difficult to remember what normal looks like at this point.

In a word, yes! However, I’m going to start off with my complaints about Hallmark Christmas movies…I said complaints, plural, just because there are so many. The commercials! They last forever and there must be at least 40, maybe more, interrupting every 2-hour movie. That’s it, no other complaints.
