Thanksgiving - 2020 Version

Thanksgiving Day, traveling to be with family, high school football rivalries, family gatherings for dinner or dessert or for both dinner and dessert, some flag football in the back yard or football games on TV, more dessert and lots of conversation and lots of laughs!
Well, if you guessed I’m talking about Thanksgiving Days past, you’re correct. This year’s holiday will be like nothing any of us have ever experienced before, unless you’re over 100 years old and can remember the Spanish flu pandemic.
This year will be different with just seven of us; yet it will be enjoyable for any number of reasons. It will be less hectic (than the times we hosted probably 15 or 16 people) whether it’s the valiant attempt to get everything on the table while it’s still hot or simply trying to have a conversation over the laughter or din of several other conversations already underway…often interrupted by, “please pass the cranberry sauce” (that would be me, I enjoy cranberry sauce with almost anything, especially turkey or chicken) or “please pass the salt and pepper”.
As I was saying, with just the seven of us, conversations can flow more easily. Eating can be accomplished on a much more leisurely pace. This pace should prepare everyone to enjoy their desserts much more.
To those of you who won’t be seeing your family in person this year, there are always memories of past Thanksgiving Day get togethers and there is always Zoom…at least only one person can speak at a time! To those of you who will have an empty chair this Thanksgiving, you have my condolences on the loss of your loved one or friend.
There is so much for which to be grateful, our family, our good health, our friends and much more.
Best wishes for a Thanksgiving Day holiday like no other! Take care and stay safe.
Until next time…
Gary
