About twelve weeks ago, Dianne and I went out for dinner with some friends. Sure, the coronavirus had hit the news and precautions had been advised. We had a great meal and really enjoyed an evening of our typical banter and plenty of laughs.
Little did we realize that night that it would be ten weeks before we would get together with them again. Only this time it was in the backyard, six feet apart, eating and enjoying takeout pizza from J’s Flying Pizza who has been delivering for well over 40 years. Our conversations were the same but they were different.
This past Saturday, we got together again with these same friends. The evening was much warmer than the week before. The menu choice was stepped up a little from takeout pizza to takeout lobster rolls from Niko’s, accompanied by sweet potato fries, onion strings, Spanish rice and Greek green beans! And the conversations and banter among the four of us comfortably returned once again.
We have tentative plans to get together for another takeout dinner this weekend. So far we have been taking turns making the dinner choices. After just two weeks, the competition is heating up and there is already a sense of one ups-man-ship when it comes to this weekend’s dinner selection. We are all enjoying these occasions to socialize, though at a distance, once again!
Although Amy and I are back working from the office pretty much on a daily basis, our current office policy precludes in-person meetings. When this changes, we’ll be sure to let you know.
